Monday morning...

I got the Olympic fever!!! A little back story for you. I worked in ATL for the 96 Olympics and ever since then i really get jazzed for the competition. The buzz around this event is one of the greatest things i have ever been a part of, and even years later, I can feel the excitement of the games.
When i was in ATL, i had the fortunate privilege to see a few games and even more so, i was able to witness history in the making. I watched the Lithuanian Basketball team take the court with their tie die warm up suits and their black ribbons for Jerry Garcia's death that had happened the summer before. This was the first and last team, that i know of, that was sponsored by a musical group from a different country, as the Grateful Dead did for this basketball team that otherwise could not afford to attend. I watched as the city was transformed from a Southern Town to an International City almost overnight. It was exciting. But I have to say that my best, most exciting memory has to be the night that the woman's gymnastics won the gold with one vault in which Kerry Scruggs broke her ankle on the approach and still delivered a flawless landing, on one foot, capturing the gold for not only her team but for the United States as well..
That was a surreal moment and I still have the VIP ticket stub that got me into the games and then more so into the gymnasts suit where all the parents of the team mates were watching and praying together.. It was magic and I can feel it all over again with each event i watch on TV. The athlete's pride, the family's enthusiasm, the coaches encouragement.. it is palatable.
So yesterday afternoon i watched with excitement as Micheal Phelps took to the pool and in what seems effortless he topped his own world record in a preliminary heat.. and then to turn around and in prime time, with three other amazing swimmers, clinch a gold in the 400 free relay "smashing" the French's hope for that title. My boyfriend and I jumped up in excitement with that last split second that called the winner..
nothing but pure excitement for these people that have outstanding physical abilities and even more, superhero mental ability".
LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!
